Transportation Secretary and Massachusetts Turnpike Board Chairman Bernard Cohen appointed  Alan LeBovidge as the new Executive Director of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority in November 2007.

LeBovidge  served as Commissioner of the State Department of Revenue for six years under two governors and brings 32-years of financial experience and leadership. 

A member of the Massachusetts Bar, LeBovidge was a partner at the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) from 1967 to 1999.  He retired for two years before being appointed as revenue commissioner in 2001. 

LeBovidge has also served on the Finance Control Board for the City of Springfield from 2005 to 2007, helping that city recover from a financial crisis. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts, a law degree from Boston College Law School, and a master of laws degree from the Boston University School of Law.

Transportation Secretary Bernard Cohen assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority on July 1, 2007.  Prior to that, he served as a Turnpike Authority Board member since February 2007.

In addition to heading the Turnpike Board, Secretary Cohen directs the Executive Office of Transportation & Public Works (EOTPW).  The Secretary has direct oversight of the Massachusetts Highway Department, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission and serves as the Chair of the MBTA Board of Directors.  As of July 1st 2007, he also assumed a seat on the Massachusetts Port Authority Board of Directors.

Immediately prior to being appointed Secretary, Cohen oversaw the Federal Transit Administration's Lower Manhattan Recovery Office (LMRO) in New York City. In this capacity, he led a $4.55 billion program to rebuild and restore transportation facilities and infrastructure in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The program's responsibilities included the construction of the permanent PATH terminal and the rebuilding of the Fulton Street Transit Center and the South Ferry Terminal Station.

Secretary Cohen has more than twenty years of experience in the field of public transportation. He has held senior management positions at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Before being appointed to lead the LMRO, he served as Deputy Managing Director of the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co., overseeing service in the Boston area.

Secretary Cohen graduated from Union College in New York. He received a Master's Degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and has worked as a freelance reporter for both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald. Secretary Cohen has two daughters, Celia and Abigail.

Michael P. Angelini was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority by Governor Deval Patrick in August of 2007.  He is Chairman of the law firm of Bowditch and Dewey in Worcester, Massachusetts and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hanover Insurance Company.

Angelini is a past president of Worcester County Bar Association, a former member of the state's Judicial Nominating Committee and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is actively involved in a large number of community organizations in Central Massachusetts and was the winner of the 2005 Isaiah Thomas Award, which is given annually to a Worcester citizen for community leadership.

Specializing in business trial and transactional work, Angelini has been practicing law since 1968. He is a graduate of Duke University School of Law and Wesleyan University.

Board Member

Mary Z. Connaughton, CPA, was appointed to the Board of Directors by Governor Mitt Romney in September 2005.  She is currently a financial advisor for the business development firm of Henniker River Group and an adjunct accounting instructor at Framingham State College.  Additionally, she serves on the Massachusetts Commission on Judicial Conduct.  

Connaughton held the position of senior manager on the audit staff of Ernst and Young in the Entrepreneurial Services division and was Chief Financial Officer of the Massachusetts State Lottery.  Her other experience includes working as a financial consultant/CPA both independently and for a local firm and being chief financial officer of a privately-held company.  She was previously vice-chair of the Framingham Finance Committee and served on the board of directors of Commonwealth Corporation. 

She earned a B.B.A. in Accounting and a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.   She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Board Member

Judy Pagliuca was appointed to the Board of Directors by Governor Mitt Romney in July 2006.   She was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager of Fidelity Management and Investments, specializing in domestic and international bonds.  She worked at Fidelity from 1984 to 1994.

Pagliuca is involved in the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and is on the Board of Advisors for Rosie's Place. She has served as a Trustee of Mass Development and is Trustee Emeritus of the Meadowbrook School of Weston.

Originally from Chicago, Pagliuca graduated from Harvard Business School and has a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois.  She has four children between the ages of 13 and 23.
